The advertisement I have chose is by Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless claims to have the fastest and most advanced 4g network in America. This is not a good argument because there is no evidence to prove the claim that their 4g network is the fastest and most advanced in America.  Epstein chapter 5 states that for an argument to be good there must be a good reason to believe the premise, the premise are more plausible than the conclusion, and the argument must be valid or strong.  Many other networks claim to have faster networks also, so should I believe Verizon over any other network? There must be evidence provided to prove that your 4g network is better.  Someone who hasn’t had Verizon before wouldn’t be able to tell if the claim is really true or not.I cannot accept the claim because of lack of evidence. Verizon needs to be more specific if they want their argument to be good

  1. Although I completely agree with Epstein and Chapter 5, I have to say that is where the Criteria for Accepting or Rejecting Claims, personal experience would definitely play a part in the evidence role. I know for me I have tried other companies and have other sources that had other cell phone services and prove that Verizon is the fastest and more reliable network. And I am sure if you looked hard enough you would probably be able to find more proof behind the statement of Verizon being the fastest and most reliable. But then again maybe your own personal experience can be your source of proof and from their you can make your own claims and judgments.

  2. I agree with what you’re saying here. I have seen the Verizon commercial many many times. And I even have Verizon! However, I don’t even know if that claim is true because I don’t have internet on my phone. Also, I have seen the commercials on T.V. and the ads in magazines where other networks would claim that they had the fastest 3G/4G network. I agree with you when you say that they need to be more clear. But, on the other hand, I wonder how can they prove that? I don’t think a Verizon person could compare with a T- mobile person because they don’t have T-mobile. This advertisement claim is a tricky one.

  3. This is a smart advertisement because it is an excellent example to use to follow Chapter 5. I totally agree with you about version having no proof that it is the fastest 4g network. The only thing to ask is when they show the commercials with different phones downloading the same image and one being faster than the other. Is that plausible or is that just the network lying to make their point? Or like missbeckz said what about the phones that do not even have internet? Isn't the point of the 4g to have a faster call service or better bars in more places?
